American Pharoah gallops 1 1/4 miles

DEL MAR, Calif. – American Pharoah, the Triple Crown winner, galloped about 1 1/4 miles Wednesday at Del Mar, his second morning on the track after arriving in the wee hours Tuesday.
He jogged on Tuesday but on Wednesday was back to galloping, and he will continue to gallop until his next workout, which will be no later than Monday. He will have all his workouts at Del Mar in advance of his next scheduled start, the Haskell Invitational at Monmouth Park on Aug. 2.
Per usual, exercise rider George Alvarez was aboard American Pharoah, who came onto the track at about 7:45 a.m., after the second of three scheduled renovation breaks during training hours. He went straight off counterclockwise after entering the track at the six-furlong gap, let some of the hectic traffic clear, then went about his business.
Fans wishing to see American Pharoah at Del Mar likely have their best opportunity on weekends. Del Mar has breakfast service in the clubhouse terrace area on Saturdays and Sundays from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. American Pharoah wears a saddle towel with his name, so he’s easy to spot. Plus, during the weekend breakfasts Del Mar provides a commentator – former jockey Jeff Bloom, now an owner through his Bloom Racing partnerships – who alerts fans when prominent horses are on the track.
