American Oaks, Mathis Brothers Mile keep their graded status

ARCADIA, Calif. – The graded stakes classifications of two stakes run at Santa Anita on Dec. 26 – the American Oaks for 3-year-old fillies and Mathis Brothers Mile for 3-year-olds – have been restored to their original status by an oversight committee after the races were switched from turf to dirt because of inclement weather.

The American Graded Stakes Committee announced Thursday that the American Oaks will be recognized as a Grade 1 race, while the Mathis Mile will be recognized as a Grade 2 race. Both races were downgraded one level until the results of the review were announced.
The committee was not as kind to the San Gabriel Stakes at 1 1/8 miles. The race was originally a Grade 2 on turf, but will be recognized as a Grade 3 after being switched to dirt.
