Ambitious plans for Lady Giacamo

Mary Rampellini|Jun 09, 2010

GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas - Lady Giacamo will be spending part of her summer at either Del Mar or Saratoga, and she can afford it. Undefeated in three starts, Lady Giacamo has emerged as the top 2-year-old filly at Lone Star Park. Her latest win came Saturday, in a division of the $66,090 Texas Thoroughbred Association Sales Futurity.

Now, Lady Giacamo is set to test her skills at one of the summer's premier meets. Allen Milligan, who trains the filly, said Lady Giacamo is being freshened and will likely target an August return in either the Grade 3, $150,000 Sorrento at Del Mar on Aug. 6, or the Grade 2, $150,000 Adirondack at Saratoga on Aug. 15. Both races are for 2-year-old fillies going 6 1/2 furlongs.

Lady Giacamo moved to the lead quickly in the Sales Futurity and went on to a 1 3/4-length win. For the effort, she earned a Beyer Figure of 69.

"She came out of the race super," Milligan said. "She dove into the feed tub that night. That's a good feeling."

Lady Giacamo made her career debut in a maiden special weight at Lone Star on May 8 and won by 4 3/4 lengths. She then came back and dominated her trial for the Sales Futurity, winning off by more than five lengths to earn a Beyer of 76.

"She's just got a beautiful stride," said Milligan.

Lady Giacamo is from the first crop of Kentucky Derby winner Giacomo and races for JRita Young Thoroughbreds.

Plans for Aces N Kings, who won the $60,000 colts and geldings division of the Sales Futurity last Saturday to remain undefeated in three starts, are being determined, said his trainer, Bob Young. He will be considered for the $50,000 Minstrel at five furlongs on turf at Louisiana Downs on July 3, or he could be freshened. Aces N Kings is based at Louisiana Downs.
