Amazing Anne might make quick turnaround

Mike Welsch|Aug 11, 2015

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Trainer Tom Morley said Tuesday morning that he’s still strongly considering bringing his 3-year-old filly Amazing Anne back in Thursday’s $100,000 Statue of Liberty Division of the New York Stallion Series Stakes following her second-place finish against males in the open Cab Calloway Division on Monday.

“The filly ate up last night, and at the moment everything is pointing towards running, although obviously we’ve got another day and one-half to make a decision,” Morley said Tuesday.

Perhaps the biggest obstacle to bringing Amazing Anne back on Thursday is the weather.

“She likes the turf rattling fast,” said Morley as rain continued to pelt the area early Tuesday. “So we’ll see how the course is affected by this weather.”

Morley said the slow pace of Monday’s race hurt Amazing Anne and jockey Junior Alvarado, and they couldn’t catch wire-to-wire winner Ex Ex Ex.

“It was painful to watch her being stuck back behind fractions like that yesterday, but Junior gave her a good ride, and if he could have gotten out a hundred yards earlier I think she would have won the race,” he said.
