Amanda's Folly catches Silver Skillet to take Ticonderoga
Amanda’s Folly became a stakes winner Sunday when she made a second run at Silver Skillet in the stretch of the $200,000 Ticonderoga and prevailed, catching the pacesetter by a neck at Aqueduct.
It was another three lengths back in third to Sweetie.
The Ticonderoga for fillies and mares was originally scheduled for 1 1/16 miles on turf, but was moved to the main track following rain earlier on the card. The main track was listed as muddy and was sealed for the Ticonderoga. The race was scratched down to a field of five after five defections, including defending winner Runaway Rumour.
Amanda’s Folly ($5.30), who was entered for the main track only, chased in second in the Ticonderoga as 4-5 favorite Silver Skillet set fractions of 23.91 seconds for the opening quarter, 47.57 for the half-mile and 1:12.39 for six furlongs. Amanda’s Folly closed the gap on the leader in the stretch and worked to get past her in the late stages, winning in 1:37.80.

Jockey Jose Ortiz was aboard for trainer Linda Rice.
“It was a little bit hard to get to [Silver Skillet], but finally, in the last couple of jumps, she got to [her],” Ortiz told the New York Racing Association. “I’m just happy for the filly to get the win. She was a claim and she has done amazing for Linda and for me. I’ve been riding her for a while now and I’m very happy for the whole team.”
Rice also owns Amanda’s Folly, who is a daughter of Mendelssohn. Amanda’s Folly has compiled a career record of five wins from 17 starts for earnings of $345,630.
