Amalfi Coast digs in to win Carotene Stakes

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Amalfi Coast won another turf stakes in Sunday’s $125,000 Carotene, giving jockey Eurico Da Silva and trainer Kevin Attard a sweep of the first three races on the Woodbine card.
Miss Ariel set moderate fractions in the nine-furlong route for Ontario-bred 3-year-old fillies, with a headstrong Holyanna and Street Zapper in close proximity.
Amalfi Coast ($4.60) raced in fourth through the turn before mounting a wide bid to hit the front in midstretch. She dug in through the final furlong to hold off 12-1 shot Monastery Lane, scoring by a neck in a time of 1:48.02 over the firm ground.
Intanga Rose checked in third after lugging in through the stretch. She was followed by Street Zapper, Holyanna, and Miss Ariel.
“She was on the muscle more than last time,” said Da Silva, who also rode Amalfi Coast to victory in the Sept. 22 Ontario Damsel. “But we were in such a great position, where any time I could just take her outside and get going. I knew that I was going to have a good run on her because I had a lot of gas in the tank. She fought very hard.”
A daughter of Tapizar, Amalfi Coast banked $75,000 for Terra Racing Stable.
