Alybegood handles mud

Marcus Hersh|May 28, 2001

STICKNEY, Ill. - Hawthorne's decision to move the Indian Maid Stakes from turf to dirt resulted in seven scratches, but it suited Alybegood. Alybegood, a shipper from Kentucky, stayed in the Indian Maid despite the surface change and took the field gate to wire, winning by three lengths over Adam's Time, the narrow favorite.

The $59,700 Indian Maid was the first career stakes win for Alybegood, owned by Joe Lacombe and trained by Mary Jo Lohmeier her. Apprentice jockey Zoe Cadman, the leading rider here, won the second stakes of her career.

Alybegood ($5.60) ran 1 1/16 miles on a muddy main track in 1:44.94.
