Alpha Capo captures Bossier City Handicap

Bossier City, La - Donnie Meche took advantage of a narrow opening in upper straight to split foes with Alpha Capo to capture Saturday's Bossier City Handicap. A late rally by Social King came up a head short as that one finished second followed by favorite and 120 pound highweight No Place Like It.

Meche sat patiently behind the pace toward the inside as the leaders cut out leisurely fractions of :24.53, :49.76 and 1:15.00. With No Place Like It keeping him bottled up turning for home, Meche drove Alpha Capo ($8.60) between rivals to grab the advantage. The Steve Asmussen charge covered the mile and a sixteenth in 1:44.46 over firm turf for owners Cathy and Bob Zollars. It was the first stakes win for Alpha Capo and his fourth overall from a dozen starts. The 3-year-old son of Alphabet Soup now has career earnings of just over $97,000.
