Allred resting after stroke

Dr. Ed Allred, the owner of Los Alamitos racecourse, suffered a stroke last weekend and is expected to make a full recovery, according to a statement released by the track late Monday.

Allred, the nation's leading breeder of racing Quarter Horses, suffered a "very minor stroke" according to his doctors, the statement said. The statement said that Allred was unlikely to suffer side effects of the stroke.

Allred, 70, is recovering at his home in Palm Desert, Calif.

Track officials say that Allred has shown improvement since being released from the hospital.

"I have some minor speech issues right now, but a little time will take care of that," Allred said in a statement.
