Allowances featured on closing day at Churchill
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The 11-day September meet at Churchill will end in relatively quiet fashion Sunday, with two allowances anchoring a 10-race card that will start at 12:45 p.m. Eastern under bright sunshine.
Race 3 is a $58,000 first-level turf mile, with Ice City Ghost, winner of the Sunday Silence at Louisiana Downs as a maiden earlier this month, among the main contenders in a compact field of 2-year-olds.
Race 9 is a $60,000 second-level allowance at a mile on the main track. Auspicious Babe likely will be favored under Corey Lanerie for trainer Dallas Stewart, even after having been soundly defeated in her last start, the Grade 1 Alabama. Five other fillies and mares will line up in opposition.
As usual, there will be a mandatory payout of all pools on closing day, even in the absence of perfect tickets, including the Single 6 (races 5-10). Two of the last four Sunday races are for $5,000 claimers.
