Allowance tripleheader caps Friday card

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The penultimate card of the Keeneland fall meet might break a bit slowly but will really fire late when three straight allowances with big fields culminate a 10-race Friday card.

Races 8 through 10 are the final links in all the late multi-race wagers that conclude the program, which has a 1:05 p.m. Eastern start. Cloudy skies and a high of 66 are in the forecast.

The 17-day meet ends Saturday with the Grade 2 Fayette Stakes. Churchill Downs begins its fall meet Sunday.

Here’s a quick rundown of the Friday co-features:

Race 8 (4:57)

A full lineup of 12 2-year-old fillies vying for a $73,000 purse makes for what looks like the most competitive race of the day. Secret Stash, an Irish-bred and -raced filly coming off a fifth-place finish in her North American debut in the Grade 1 Natalma last month at Woodbine, could come a slight favorite in the 1 1/16-mile turf race. Ricardo Santana Jr. rides for trainer Mark Casse.

Two other fillies exiting stakes, Love Beach and Ginseng, add further depth to the field, as do a couple more with sharp last-out maiden wins, In Good Spirits and Dominga.

Race 9 (5:30)

Lady Kate, last seen finishing fifth in the Grade 1 Ashland here in the spring, drew the outside post in a field of 11 fillies and mares going seven furlongs for a $73,000 purse. Trained by Eddie Kenneally, Lady Kate was the runner-up in the Suncoast in February at Tampa Bay Downs behind Point of Honor, the eventual winner of the Black-Eyed Susan. A Bernardini filly, Lady Kate shows seven local breezes in preparation for her eagerly awaited return.

Lifetime Memory, a maiden winner at Belmont Park in her only start, could challenge Lady Kate for favoritism in the race, which also includes Brittas Bay, What a Fox, and Diamond Crazy as major players.

Race 10 (6:03)

Credit Swap, a gray gelding who has raced strictly in 3-year-old turf stakes this year, will face older horses for the first time when he breaks from post 1 in another capacity field of 12 in the $75,000 race at 1 1/8 miles on turf.

High Promise, beaten an inch in his return from a 10-month layoff, also is among the major contenders, along with Apreciado and Hierarchy.
