Allowance races help make up Rainbow 6
HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – All three allowances on Sunday’s card at Gulfstream are part of the 50-cent late pick five (races 7-11) and the 20-cent Rainbow 6 (races 6-11), which is expected to offer a pool of about $250,000, assuming the jackpot isn’t swept Friday or Saturday by a solo winner.
Race 7 is first-level one-turn mile in which Favor figures as a heavy favorite for Todd Pletcher in a field of six 3-year-old fillies. Favor won a maiden race last out with a 77 Beyer, a number well clear of what the opposition has earned.
Race 9 is a first-level turf sprint with a more balanced lineup of 10 older horses. Sayyaaf, entered for an optional $25,000 tag by trainer Mike Maker, figures among a core of lukewarm favorites off a sharp recent comeback win.

Race 10 is a six-furlong race for statebreds that drew a field of nine, including the uncoupled duo of Mish and Picking Up Pennies for leading trainer Saffie Joseph Jr. Picking Up Pennies, with Irad Ortiz Jr. riding, figures to benefit from his Dec. 12 comeback race.
Mostly sunny skies and a high near 80 are in the local forecast for Sunday, meaning turf racing should proceed as scheduled. Races 4, 9, and 11 are carded on the grass.
