Allowance feature sets up well for Ted W
ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Ted W has the right style for Friday’s Woodbine headliner and will be tough to hold off if he brings his “A” game in the first-level allowance sprint.
Ted W has won two of his last three outings for owner and breeder George Bigliardi and trainer Paul Attard. He won his second start of the meet in front-running style in an Ontario-sired allowance over seven furlongs on grass June 7.
Ted W faded to seventh after attending the pace when moving out to 1 1/16 miles July 4. He rebounded while cutting back to six furlongs and changing surfaces to Polytrack on Aug. 1, when he stalked the leaders four wide on the turn before prevailing by daylight in a race for non-winners-of-three Ontario-sired allowance stock and $40,000 claimers.
There is an abundance of speed in the feature, and Ted W can track the leaders before making his move. Ten others were entered in the six-furlong event.
Race 8
KEY CONTENDERS
Ted W (Last 3 Beyers: 80-67-81)
◗ The 4-year-old has lost regular rider Eurico Da Silva, but Alan Garcia is 2 for 4 at the meet when riding for this 20 percent barn.
Bear’s Profit (Last 3 Beyers: 74-76-71)
◗ He defeated $20,000 conditioned opposition two starts back and was claimed for the second time in a row most recently, when second for $25,000. Trainer Denyse McClachrie has posted good numbers the first time off the claim and is 2 for 13 at the meet when she has given Justin Stein a leg up.
Mist (Last 3 Beyers: 74-76-72)
◗ Leading rider Da Silva was named on him and the other Ralph Biamonte-trained 3-year-old, Midnight Trace. Mist has won two in a row racing on or near the lead, including an Ontario-sired allowance sprint in his turf debut July 19.
◗ Many of the West Point Thoroughbred runners are underlays, and this one should be well backed in the third race of his form cycle.
Rebellion on Tap (Last 3 Beyers: 74-79-80)
◗ He was never in the hunt when ambitiously spotted in his season opener in the restricted Shepperton Stakes on Aug. 3. He has since worked five-eighths in a bullet 59.40 seconds and might be poised to duplicate his excellent fall form.
Goodnight Hawk (Last 3 Beyers: 72-74-60)
◗ He could be the speed of the speed after breaking from post 1. A hot Luis Contreras retains the mount for second-leading trainer Kevin Attard.
