Allowance comes up very salty

Jazzy Song was good enough to win the $58,000 Filly Sales Stakes in 2008. Nonetheless, she probably won't be favored in what appears to be a very competitive first-level allowance at Northlands Park on Friday.

The six-furlong feature for 3-year-old fillies attracted seven horses and goes as the seventh race.

Tiffany Chic will receive a fair amount of support. Trained by Ernie Keller, Tiffany Chic finished third in a six-furlong $32,000 optional race on May 16 and she figures to move forward in the second start of her form cycle. Keller has won with two of the last three horses he has wheeled back in seven days or less, and the race could set up nicely for Tiffany Chic, who figures to make a late move into what should be a brisk pace.

Tiffany Chic will be ridden by Desmond Bryan.

Veteran jockey Jake Barton will try and take them all the way aboard Calmcoolncollected. A California-bred filly by In Excess, Calmcoolncollected ran well to finish third in a 3 1/2-furlong entry-level allowance race on May 3. In her previous start she cruised to a front-running 13-length win in a $5,000 maiden race at Turf Paradise. She is trained by Darcy Hawkes.

Captains Echo also has good speed and she finished in front of Calmcoolncollected in the May 3 race. She has started only three times. She won a 3 1/2-furlong maiden special weight race in her debut last August at Northlands. In her 2009 debut, Calmcoolncollected finished sixth in an entry-level race at Turf Paradise on March 28.

Jazzy Song, who also will appreciate a contested pace, hasn't raced since finishing fourth in the $50,000 Sturgeon River Stakes last September. She is eligible to this nonwinners-of-two allowance because the Filly Sales Stakes is her only victory.
