Allamerican Bertie retired

Marty McGee|Mar 31, 2003

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Allamerican Bertie, one of the top fillies in North America, has been retired after being diagnosed with a knee injury following a Sunday workout at Churchill Downs.

Trainer Steve Flint said Allamerican Bertie, a 4-year-old filly by Quiet American, suffered a slab fracture of the third carpal bone in her right knee. The injury is not life-threatening and will not require surgery.

Allamerican Bertie won 8 of 14 races and $799,235 for owners Bert, Elaine, and Richard Klein. She won the Grade 2 Rampart Handicap at Gulfstream in her last start. Her other major efforts included victories in the Delaware Oaks and Falls City and Sabin handicaps and a runner-up finish in the Grade 1 Alabama.
