All-sources handle in California continues to show declines compared to 2024, according to data released at Thursday’s California Horse Racing Board meeting.
Through September, handle at all venues in the state, including ontrack, simulcast, and account wagering sources, was more than $1.98 billion, a decline of 5 percent from a figure of more than $2.09 million in 2024.
The most significant decline was ontrack, which dropped 14 percent from $142.1 million in 2024 to $121.5 million this year. Handle from account wagering sources showed growth of 2 percent from $797.5 million in 2024 to $815.7 million this year.
In September, all-sources handle fell 15 percent from $205.3 million in 2024 to $176.6 million this year. There was one fewer day of racing on Saturdays and Sundays this September compared to 2024.
The racing board will meet on Nov. 19 in what is likely to be its last gathering of the year, according to executive director Scott Chaney. He said the December meeting is likely to be canceled.
In 2026, the racing board is scheduled to meet six times, every other month beginning in January, and will meet on the second Wednesdays on most occasions.
The board has met seven times this year.
