All six trying turf for first time in Bold Ruckus Stakes

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Six Ontario-sired 3-year-olds will make their turf debuts in Sunday’s $100,000 Bold Ruckus Stakes over six furlongs on the E.P. Taylor turf course at Woodbine.
The field is led by Souper Success, who enters off a fourth-place finish in the seven-furlong Queenston Stakes on Tapeta on May 19. Two starts back, Souper Success came off the bench to win the Woodstock Stakes on April 27, earning an 80 Beyer Speed Figure. Trainer Michael De Paulo said Souper Success was sharp in the Queenston, which may have contributed to the loss.
“He might have reacted a little from his first race. He might have bounced a little,” he said. “In his first race back, he was in the 1 hole and got covered up. This time, he broke real sharp, and off he went. I think had he been able to lay off the pace a little, it might have been a different result.”
De Paulo said Souper Success hasn’t had a chance to train over turf recently due to the weather conditions.
“Normally, I like to give them a breeze, but nobody’s been able to get on the [turf training course],” he said. “The two courses are certainly different, but it’s nice to get an idea. His mother was stakes-placed on the grass, so we’re hoping that carries through with him.”
