'All others' favored as Kentucky Derby Future Wager Pool 2 closes
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The mutuel field, the 40th or “all others” option, was the 4-5 favorite when Pool 2 of the 2023 Kentucky Derby Future Wager closed Sunday evening following a four-day betting window.
Forte (10-1), Extra Anejo (13-1), and Loggins (19-1) were the lowest odds among the individually listed betting interests. Combined handle (win and exacta) totaled $162,112.
This is the first year for 40 betting interests in the Future Wager, which previously had been limited to 24 interests since Churchill Downs began offering parimutuel futures in 1999.
The field also was the 4-5 favorite in Pool 1, held Nov. 1-3, and in fact has been the Pool 1 and Pool 2 favorite every single year. In all, six futures pools are scheduled this year ahead of the 149th Derby on May 6, 2023.
Held concurrent to Pool 2 was the Derby Sires Futures, with the field favored at 5-1 over Into Mischief (7-1), Gun Runner (12-1), and Uncle Mo (13-1) among 40 interests. Combined handle was $33,732.
