A colt by Gold Tribute topped the Equine Sales Co. auction of 2-year-olds in training and horses of racing age in Opelousas, La., on Monday, bringing $65,000 from Jerome Namy. The Louisiana-bred 2-year-old named Cale’s Gold helped lift the auction to gains over the corresponding sale in 2014.

Trainer Shug McGaughey won the 2013 Kentucky Derby with Orb, and later that year, three races into Honor Code’s career, it seemed fair to wonder if McGaughey might make it two Derbies in a row.

The stars won’t just be on “Millionaire’s Row” leading up to Saturday’s Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs. As usual, equine stars also will be showcased, long before the Kentucky Derby is run.
