All I Can Get stays at top of division

All I Can Get remained atop the Michigan-bred 3-year-old male division with a gutsy win in Tuesday's $50,000 Mackinac Handicap. The 1-5 favorite hooked up with second choice My First Buck, and the two dueled down the stretch with All I Can Get gaining a neck advantage late. It was more than 14 lengths back to Scarlet Fact in third.

Freddie Mata was aboard the winner for owner Michael McQuade and trainer Gerald Bennett, who also trains Scarlet Fact. A homebred Slew City Slew gelding, All I Can Get stopped the timer in 1:50 for 1 1/16 miles. He paid $2.80 for the win and was responsible for a minus show pool of just over $2,000.

All I Can Get had already won two stakes here this meet, the Dowling and the Spartan, and is now 5 for 6 in stakes here.

* Owner Gwen Reading died last week at age 89. She had been in the Thoroughbred business for about 60 years along with her husband, trainer John Reading.
