There are certainly some well-bred first-time starters in this race. Those include Victor Lounge (#3), one of two European graded stakes winners on turf; Blockade (#9), whose dam was a multiple graded stakes winner on turf; and Voting Control (#10), a son of Kitten’s Joy out of a grass-winning dam. I’ll use them all, but I’m most interested in a horse with experience.
It’s a huge day of sports in New York, with the first Sunday of the NFL season and my man Rafa Nadal going for his first U.S. Open title. But those events will be relegated to TV No. 2 in the Brooklyn Bunker, as I plan on playing Belmont today. I’ll try to get on the right foot in the early pick five.

It’s Super Derby Day at Louisiana Downs. Alas, the feature, moved to turf from dirt for this year’s renewal, did not come up a super race. Just six were entered, and at most, five are expected to start, with Gorgeous Kitten’s connections opting for Kentucky Downs on Sunday. But there are 11 other races to consider, including several more turf stakes, and some decent betting opportunities on the card.
