The defection of Fashion Business from the John Henry Turf Championship at Santa Anita has me interested in a mid-card pick three comprised of a $25,000 claimer going down the hill, the Grade 1 Zenyatta, and the Grade 2 John Henry.
I think you have to start out any analysis of this race by excusing a trio of runners for their performances in the Aug. 5 allowance race at this level. That turf course at Saratoga was legitimately soft, and only a handful of runners in that field seemed to handle the going.

Entries are in short supply for Saturday's Grade 1 American Pharoah and Grade 1 Chandelier stakes at Santa Anita, which drew a combined 11 juveniles. Questions, however, are in abundance. Virtually all of these 2-year-olds are uncertainties to some degree, whether in respect to the 1 1/16-mile distance of the two races or from a class perspective.
