Alice K White, one of four fillies in a star-studded field of colts, ran the best race of her career to post a 6-1 upset in Saturday's $250,000 Golden State Derby at Los Alamitos. The victory enhanced her status among the nation's 3-year-old Quarter Horse fillies. The win came at the expense of two millionaires Foose, who finished second, and Tres Passes, who finished fourth as the 2-1 favorite. A Tempting Dash, the fastest qualifier, finished third in the field of 10. Ridden by Cody Jensen, Alice K White ($15.40) ran 400 yards in 19.34 seconds. She finished a head in front of Foose. Alice K White, owned by breeder Mac Murray and trained by Mike Joiner, has won 5 of 10 starts and $263,342. She won her first stakes in the La Primera Del Ano Derby against fillies at Los Alamitos in April and was fifth in the Governor's Cup Derby in July.
