Alberto-Culver again a Cup sponsor

The Alberto-Culver Company has reached an agreement to sponsor this year's 2004 Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf, the Breeders' Cup and the National Thoroughbred Racing Association announced on Tuesday.

The $1 million VO5 Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf will be one of six Breeders' Cup races to be sponsored among the eight Breeders' Cup races at this year's event, scheduled for Oct. 30 at Lone Star Park in Grand Prairie, Texas. VO5 is a hair-care product sold by Alberto-Culver, whose chairman emeritus, Leonard Lavin, is a Thoroughbred owner.

Alberto-Culver has sponsored a number of Breeders' Cup races over the years, beginning with the 1989 Breeders' Cup Sprint. It last sponsored a race in 2000, for the second running of the Filly and Mare Turf.

Other sponsors of races on this year's card include Bessemer Trust, Dodge, John Deere, NetJets, and Nextel.
