Al Muthana, Make It Snappy capture fees-paid BC berths
Al Muthana and Make It Snappy won Group 1 races at Kenilworth Racecourse in South Africa on Saturday, earning fees-paid berths to Breeders’ Cup races at Santa Anita in November.
Both runners must be nominated to the Breeders’ Cup program to be eligible for the November races.
The Australian-bred Al Muthana (80-1) caught the previously unbeaten Charles Dickens to win the L’Ormarins King’s Plate. Al Muthana earned a berth to the Breeders’ Cup Mile.
Al Muthana has won 8 of 18 starts. The King’s Plate was his second Group 1 race, preceded by the Gold Challenge Stakes at a mile last June.
Make It Snappy (5-2) won the Cartier Paddock Stakes at 1 1/8 miles on turf to earn a berth to the BC Filly and Mare Turf. Make it Snappy won the Group 1 Fillies Guineas at Kenilworth on Dec. 3.
