Ain't Broke puts it together for Rice

OZONE PARK, N.Y. – Linda Rice appears to have found herself another stakes-caliber female sprinter in Ain’t Broke, who was visually impressive winning a second-level allowance Thursday at Aqueduct.
Ain’t Broke, a 4-year-old daughter of Dialed In, made an eye-catching last-to-first move from the three-eighths pole to the quarter pole, then sustained her run to the wire to win by five lengths.
It was the third straight win for Ain’t Broke, who Rice claimed for $75,000 on Sept. 21 at Churchill Downs. Ain’t Broke won a first-level allowance by 5 1/2 lengths here Nov. 26 and earned a 91 Beyer Speed Figure in that race and an 87 for her win Thursday.
“She was a one number horse until yesterday,” said Rice, referring to Ain’t Broke’s speed figure. “They were going pretty fast up front. I wasn’t surprised she was dead last by many. The acceleration around the turn and that she continued on was very impressive. It’s kind of exciting for the new year.”

Ain’t Broke, who is a full sister to multiple graded stakes winner Mr. Wireless, could be pointed to the $150,000 Interborough on Jan. 20. Rice also has Hot Fudge, winner of the Garland of Roses Stakes, likely for the Interborough as well.
While Ain’t Broke won that allowance on Thursday, the Rice-trained Downtown Mischief faded to fourth after setting the pace.
Rice said she will likely shorten Downtown Mischief up to six furlongs, though where and when that race will be is undetermined.
