After a number of trips to the altar, Broken Proposal ready to win maiden
ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Broken Proposal appears to have found a cozy spot in which to win her maiden in Friday’s eighth and final race at Woodbine, a $25,000 claimer scheduled for 1 1/16 miles on the inner turf.
Broken Proposal is one of the last homebreds at Woodbine from the legendary Sam-Son Farm, which dispersed the majority its stock over the last year and a half.
Broken Proposal had a promising debut last October when second to the future stakes winner Souper Hoity Toity, after which she finished up the track behind the debuting Moira in the Princess Elizabeth Stakes. She closed her juvenile campaign with another second against maiden-special company in November.
Broken Proposal has not improved from 2 to 3. She wound up seventh in each of her last two outings on different turf courses at the maiden-special level. A mile and a quarter proved too far for her most recently on the main course, but she has since worked five-eighths in a bullet 1:00.60 on the training track and appears to be in fine fettle.

Canadian Hall of Famer Gary Boulanger will ride Broken Proposal, a daughter of Broken Vow trained by Stuart Simon.
With the portable rail in lane 3, Tickle Her Toe figures to lead the way along the inside under David Moran.
Tickle Her Toe was claimed off a fourth-place finish as the favorite for $40,000 from her penultimate start by trainer Nigel Burke. Running back for $40,000 on July 16, she dueled through fast fractions before tiring late to finish third. Considering how well she just ran, the drop here to $25,000 is a little perplexing, and Burke is 0 for 3 second time off a claim over the past five years.
Tara Luna is stretching out in her third start for high-percentage trainer Zeljko Krcmar. Her first two races for Krcmar on the main turf weren’t anything to write home about, but one of her best efforts was a fourth-place finish on the inner course just before she joined his barn on June 2.
Tenpenny Nail was overmatched against Ontario-sired and $40,000 maidens in her latest. She was previously a charging second at this level on the Tapeta, and her overall turf form is decent.
Foxy Diva is experimenting around two turns with the pedigree of a router. She struggled in a pair of maiden special weight sprints in July, but is dropping to a logical spot while shedding some weight with apprentice Slade Jones riding.
Hushmeup also is exiting the maiden-special ranks. Her best of three races was a front-running fourth in a slow-paced Tapeta contest traveling 1 1/8 miles in late June.
Ready Candy is a nicely bred daughter of elite sire Candy Ride and turf stakes winner Ready Signal. She couldn’t handle $35,000 maidens when commencing her career during the winter at Gulfstream before two dull efforts here this summer.
