After Market beats Lava Man in Whittingham

After Market ($6.80) ran down the 4-5 favorite, Lava Man, in the final furlong to win the Grade 1 Whittingham by 1 1/2 lengths. Ridden by Alex Solis, After Market ran 1 1/4 miles on turf in a quick 1:58.77. Obrigado closed from last to finish third in the field of eight.

Lava Man, the winner of $4,739,706 who was making his first start since finishing 16th in Dubai in March, closed from third on the backstretch to take the lead on the turn, holding an advantage of 1 1/2 lengths after a mile.
