SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. _ Trainer Brendan Walsh will certainly hope the forecasted rain Sunday holds off until later than 4:30 p.m., after the $150,000 Bolton Landing Stakes for 2-year-old fillies is scheduled to be run at Saratoga. Walsh has the Irish-bred European import Mighty Eriu set to compete in the Bolton Landing, scheduled for 5 1/2 furlongs on the outer turf course. Mighty Eriu, previously trained by Gavin Cromwell, might be a maiden, but the company she kept in Europe is pretty strong. Two starts back, Might Eriu finished second in the 24-horse Group 2 Queen Mary at the Royal Ascot meeting. She showed some real professionalism slipping through an opening along the rail and finishing strongly while getting beat 1 3/4 lengths. In her next start, Mighty Eriu finished seventh, beaten 3 1/2 lengths, in the Group 2 Duchess of Cambridge Stakes at Newmarket, where she got off poorly. :: Gain a competitive edge at Saratoga with DRF's premier handicapping data — purchase our meet packages today and bet with confidence. “I think the horse next door to her was kicking off and it kind of scared her,” Walsh said. “We stood her here now a couple of times, and she seemed to handle it. She’s very, very classy.” Flavien Prat is named to ride. Trainer Tom Amoss, who has already won four races at the meet, would appear to have a top contender in the Bolton Landing, regardless of surface. On turf, Amoss sends out Lady Orient, a debut winner in a field of 10 on July 13 at Ellis Park. If transferred to dirt, Amoss would scratch Lady Orient and rum Kimchi Cat, one of three entered in this field to run only on the main track. Lady Orient, Amoss said “ran a really good race at Ellis, got in some trouble, overcame it to win. We just feel like on the grass she would be a very worthwhile bet.” Kimchi Cat finished second to Viggiedal – also entered in this race – on debut June 14 at Churchill Downs. Kimchi Cat came back July 14 to win a 5 1/2-furlong maiden race by 3 1/2 lengths. La Cara, fourth behind Kimchi Cat, came back to win a maiden race Aug. 11 by eight lengths here with an 84 Beyer Speed Figure. Kimchi Cat has followed up with two solid works over the main track. “She really kind of put it together after the race here,” Amoss said. “I really thought her training improved after running here.” Tyler Gaffalione will ride whichever horse Amoss runs. Yesterday would be interesting on turf should she run. A half-sister to multiple stakes winner Roses for Debra, Yesterday finished sixth in her debut July 21 going 1 1/16 miles. Trainer George Weaver was disappointed Yesterday, by American Pharoah, didn’t handle the longer distance but cuts her back in part due to the success of her family. However, with a chance of rain in the forecast, Weaver is uncertain to run Yesterday on Sunday. He did work her an easy half-mile in 54 seconds on Friday over the Oklahoma turf. Me Governor, trained by Carlos David, is a maiden winner on dirt and finished third in the Colleen Stakes on turf. Viggiedal, who beat Kimchi Cat by five lengths on dirt at Churchill before finishing sixth in the Schuylerville, has breezed well twice on turf. :: Get Saratoga Clocker Reports straight from the morning workouts at the track. Available every race day. Icona Mama, Dreamgirl, and Abientot complete the field in the body of the race. Fortunate Mia and Obliging are entered to run on the main track. Evan Shipman, take 2 Trainer Linda Rice had Sheriff Bianco entered in both the John Morrissey Stakes on Aug. 8 and the Evan Shipman Stakes the following day. Rice indicated that she was going to run in the Shipman but ran in the Morrissey, at six furlongs, where he finished fourth. With the $125,000 Evan Shipman being canceled on Aug. 9 and being brought back for Sunday, it gives Rice the opportunity to run Sheriff Bianco in both. “I was afraid they were going to cancel,” Rice said when asked about why she elected to run in the Morrissey. Sheriff Bianco has three seconds and a third from four starts going a mile, including a runner-up finish in last year’s Evan Shipman. Sunday, he breaks from the rail. Donegal Surges is entered in both a 1 1/8-mile allowance on Saturday and the Shipman. Trainer Todd Pletcher said Friday if the field for Saturday’s allowance stays intact he would scratch and run Donegal Surges in the Shipman. He is coming out of a second-place finish to Drake’s Passage in the Commentator going 1 1/8 miles here June 9. “I think he’s proven versatile enough, he’s actually done pretty well from six to a mile and an eighth,” Pletcher said. Bank Frenzy scratched out of an allowance race here Thursday. Bank Frenzy has not run since winning a second-level statebred allowance on May 26 at Aqueduct. Since then, he was purchased privately by LSU Stables and transferred to Rudy Rodriguez. Cicciobello is a newcomer to the Shipman field. He won a one-mile allowance here last summer and finished fourth in the Empire Classic last fall at Aqueduct. Maker’s Candy and Whittington Park complete the Shipman field. The Shipman is carded as race 3. :: Bet the races with a $200 First Deposit Match + FREE All Access PPs! Join DRF Bets.
