After 25 races, Miss Blue Tye Dye goes long

Joseph Swavy|Dec 20, 2008

After a 25-race career spent sprinting, Miss Blue Tye Dye will try to stretch her speed beyond seven furlongs for the first time in Tuesday's $75,000 Sleigh Ride Stakes at Philadelphia Park.

The mile and 70-yard Sleigh Ride, for fillies and mares 3 and up, drew a field of eight.

Miss Blue Tye Dye has raced at six and seven furlongs this season, compiling an 4-1-1 record in 8 starts for earnings of $191,835. She is exiting a 2 1/4-length victory in a money allowance Nov. 13 at Penn National, which came on the heels of a second-place finish in a similar allowance at Philly Park on Oct. 13.

Trainer Robert Reid Jr. has had limited success with the move from sprints to routes, winning with just 4 percent of his most recent 25 runners who have stretched out.

If Miss Blue Tye Dye can't make her speed last, You Asked or Lucky Revival figure to be likely contenders.

You Asked, trained by Alan Goldberg, is tested at the Sleigh Ride distance, having raced a mile and 70 yards in her last two starts, a four-length score in a fourth-level optional claimer Dec. 7 at Philadelphia Park and a second-place finish in a similar race at the Meadowlands on Nov. 4. She earned a Beyer Speed Figure of 83 for the Philly Park race and an 82 at the Meadowlands.

Lucky Revival boasts the highest last-race Beyer Figure in the field, an 87 earned in a one-mile race taken off the turf at Aqueduct on Nov. 27. Lucky Revival bested seven $35,000 claiming rivals by six lengths in that race, her first win in four starts since a seven-length romp over optional claiming foes July 7 at Delaware Park.

Talkin About Love will be making her sixth straight start in a stakes race, a string that includes a fourth-place finish behind Hystericalady in Monmouth Park's Grade 2 Molly Pitcher Stakes. Her lone win in eight starts this season came in an optional claimer over the Sleigh Ride distance on July 23 at Monmouth.

Completing the field are Tiz Beverly, Star Snuck, All Smiles, and Who's Happy.
