Afleet Angel owns back class

Joe DeVivo|May 24, 2008

Afleet Angel, who romped in her only appearance locally, ships in to Charles Town from Mountaineer for the $40,000 Berkeley Handicap, a

1 1/8-mile race for fillies and mares.

The 8-year-old Afleet Angel has been idle since November, but faced quality competition last season, primarily on the turf, where she won 2 of 10 starts and $104,765. She did run well, drawing off by nearly five lengths, when she shipped across West Virginia to Charles Town for a seven-furlong allowance last May.

Her chief challenger looks like Hoochie Glide, who was good enough to win a second-level optional $50,000 claimer by five lengths in February at Oaklawn Park. She will be making the second start of her form cycle for Philadelphia Park-based trainer John Servis.
