Afleet Alex drills bullet 46.30

In a workout accomplished with ease, Afleet Alex breezed four furlongs in a bullet 46.30 seconds Tuesday at Oaklawn Park. The drill was his final major preparation for Saturday's Grade 2, $1 million Arkansas Derby.

"He looked like he was just galloping along," said Tim Ritchey, who trains Afleet Alex.

Afleet Alex came home his last quarter in 21.80 seconds and galloped out five furlongs in 58.69 seconds. Jeremy Rose, the leading candidate to ride Afleet Alex on Saturday, was aboard for the drill.

"This was just to stretch his legs, to get a little air underneath him," said Ritchey.

Afleet Alex, who was found to have a lung infection following his sixth-place finish as the favorite in the Grade 3 Rebel in his last start March 19, scoped clean after the work, said Ritchey.
