Admire Groove wins in Kyoto

Admire Groove succeeded against females where she had failed against males on Sunday with a victory at Kyoto, Japan, in the $1.85 million Grade 1 Queen Elizabeth II Commemorative Cup.

A 4-year-old daughter of Sunday Silence, Admire Groove prevailed by three-quarters of a length over Osumi Haraka. Ridden by Yutaka Take, she came from mid-pack in the 18-runner field of females as the 2.30-1 co-favorite, covering 1 3/8 miles in 2:13.60 on firm ground.

Admire Groove had previously finished third behind the colts Zenno Rob Roy and Dance in the Dark in the 1 1/4-mile Autumn Tenno Sho at Tokyo.

At Sha Tin in Hong Kong, Ain't Here overcame an 11-pound shift in the weights to defeat Bowman's Crossing in the $387,000 International Cup Trial. On Oct. 17, Bowman's Crossing had spotted Ain't Here 11 pounds when Ain't Here won a nose decision in the one-mile Group 3 Sha Tin Trophy. Sent off at 3.75-1, Ain't Here covered the 1 1/4 miles in 2:01.00 on good-to-firm ground.
