Adare Manor, the beaten favorite in the Grade 2 Santa Anita Oaks, was one of 13 3-year-old fillies entered Sunday for Friday’s Grade 2, $250,000 Black-Eyed Susan Stakes going 1 1/8 miles at Pimlico. Post positions for the Black-Eyed Susan were not scheduled to be drawn until Monday, when posts for Saturday’s Grade 1, $1.5 million Preakness Stakes were to be drawn at a 4 p.m. event to be held at Citron, a waterfront restaurant in Baltimore. First post for Friday’s 14-race card will be 11:30 a.m. Adare Manor impressed with a 12-length maiden win and a 13-length score in the Grade 3 Las Virgenes before she was upset by a neck by Desert Dawn in the Santa Anita Oaks. Her connections opted to skip the Kentucky Oaks and point to the Black-Eyed Susan. Adare Manor, previously in the care of Bob Baffert, was transferred by owner Michael Lund Petersen to Tim Yakteen for the Santa Anita Oaks. She will run for trainer Sean McCarthy in the Black-Eyed Susan. John Velazquez will ride. :: Get ready for the Preakness with DRF past performances, picks, and betting strategies! Among Adare Manor’s chief rivals in the Black-Eyed Susan is Beguine, runner-up in the Grade 3 Fantasy who failed to draw in from the also-eligible list for the Kentucky Oaks. Jose Ortiz picks up that mount for trainer Danny Peitz. The remainder of the field, with jockeys, is: Candy Light (Charlie Marquez), Distinctlypossible (Irad Ortiz Jr.), Divine Huntress (Flavien Prat), Favor (Tyler Gaffalione), Interstatedaydream (Florent Geroux), Luna Belle (Dennis Araujo), Midnight Stroll (Javier Castellano), Miss Yearwood (Julien Leparoux), Missy Greer (Luis Saez), Morning Matcha (Frankie Pennington), and Radio Days (Joel Rosario). The Black-Eyed Susan will go as race 13. No Miles D but Pimlico Special gets 11 Miles D, expected to be among the favorites for Friday’s Grade 3, $300,000 Pimlico Special, was not entered in the 1 3/16-mile race for older males, but the race drew a bulky field off 11. Trainer Chad Brown said Sunday that Miles D’s most recent workout - in company with Preakness candidate Early Voting - “was not up to par,” so he opted to keep him out of the entries. “How he’s come out of it I’m not completely comfortable with,” Brown said. “Hopefully, he doesn’t miss much time, but I do want to get him checked out.” With Miles D out, favoritism could be between the Todd Pletcher-trained duo of Vindictive and Untreated, who drew posts 1 and 3, respectively. Vindictive, third behind Miles D in last year’s Discovery at Aqueduct, won a March allowance race to kick off his 4-year-old campaign. Untreated was upset by Forewarned - also in this field - in the Excelsior Stakes at Aqueduct on April 2. First Captain, last year’s Grade 3 Dwyer Stakes winner, will stretch out after a last-place finish in the Grade 1 Carter Handicap at seven furlongs. Trainer Shug McGaughey is adding blinkers to First Captain’s equipment. :: Get Preakness Betting Strategies by for exclusive wagering insight, contender analysis, and more Also entered in the Pimlico Special were Shooger Ray Too, Workin On a Dream, Forewarned, Capocostello, Excellorator, Treasure Trove, Mischief Afoot, and Mohaafeth. Exotic West drew the rail while Frost Point drew the outside. Into Vanishing, Click To Confirm, Super Quick, and Lil Kings Princess complete that field. *** Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf winner Pizza Bianca heads a field of eight 3-year-old fillies entered in the $100,000 Hilltop Stakes scheduled for one mile on turf. Others entered include Determined Gold, Lady Puchi, Hail To, Determined Star, Murph, and Vergara. *** Happy Soul, the freakishly fast 3-year-old filly, will cut back to six furlongs in the $150,000 Miss Preakness Stakes for 3-year-old fillies, which drew a field of eight. Happy Soul won the Astoria at 2 and the Dixie Belle at 3 sprinting. She is coming out of a sixth-place finish in the Grade 1 Ashland at 1 1/16 miles and two turns in April. Happy Soul will break from post 2 under John Velazquez. Her rivals include Verylittlecents, Under the Stars, Lady Scarlet, La Casa D’Oro, Saucy Lady T, Sweet Solare, and Gimmick. *** Goin’ Good, who has placed in a trio of turf sprint stakes this year, may have found the right spot to get her first win of 2022 in the $100,000 The Very One Stakes for female turf sprinters going five furlongs. Honey Pants, Phantom Mission, and Princess Kokachin are among the contenders in a seemingly wide-open field of 12 that includes one main-track-only entrant.
