ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Trainers Kevin Attard and Mark Casse each have runners in both maiden special weight events on Thursday’s Woodbine program, which begins at 5:30 p.m. with a six-furlong sprint that contains some promising 2-year-olds. The Attard-trained Ada Clare should be favored in her first start since a solid debut in the Oct. 12 Glorious Song Stakes. She darted out to a clear lead in the seven-furlong sprint before tiring in the final furlong to end up second behind the favored Piper’s Gift. Ada Clare is meeting five males with leading apprentice Pietro Moran back in the saddle. Casse is sending out the fast-working debuter Voodoo Doll with blinkers and Lasix. The son of superb 24 percent 2-year-old debut sire Vekoma is the first foal from a $40,000 maiden-claiming turf route winner at Belmont. The $220,000 Keeneland yearling purchase worked a half-mile in 47.80 seconds with stakes-placed Rude Procedure on Oct. 18. Mor Joe’s Spirit has posted a series of five-furlong works for trainer Mike Wright Jr. The son of 11 percent 2-year-old debut sire Mor Spirit dusted company from the gate when covering that distance in 1:01.40 on Oct. 26. Brachetto, another first-timer by the popular Vekoma, beat his company in a half-mile gate drill in 50 seconds on Nov. 1. Trained by Julia Carey, the Manitoba-bred is a half-brother to seven winners, none of whom won at 2. :: Access the most trusted data and information in horse racing! The son of champion sprinter Mitole looks like a candidate for the bottom of vertical wagers. Attard runs the fillies Afleet Flatter and Onehotmess against the boys in the sixth, a nine-furlong maiden special for 3-year-olds and up. Afleet Flatter was all over the track before rallying along the rail in deep stretch to finish a close third in her first two-turn start on the Tapeta on Oct. 10. The daughter of Ami’s Flatter has since worked in her usual impressive manner. Onehotmess is competing on Tapeta for the first time after running competitively in 4 of 5 turf route starts. She ran evenly for third most recently behind the Casse-trained Salted over an inner course labeled as good. The well-traveled Salted has started twice here this fall since shipping in from Kentucky. Off some rapid works, she was bet down to favoritism when a flat fourth in a Sept. 27 Tapeta sprint. Three weeks later, she had a clear lead until late stretch before fading to second in her first turf race. Hello Stranger is arguably the one to beat in the sixth off his back-to-back runner-up finishes on different surfaces. He got a 73 Beyer Speed Figure last out when losing by a nose on the Tapeta, which is the highest Beyer posted by any runner in the eight-horse field this year. Ryan Munger will ride Hello Stranger again for trainer Krista Cole. They are a combined 4 for 33 at the meet. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
