Acceptance takes break to heal sore shins

Acceptance, who won his first three starts, including the King Glorious Stakes at Los Alamitos in December, has been turned out after finishing fourth in the California Cup Derby at Santa Anita on Jan. 24.
The 3-year-old Acceptance will be rested at owner Bud Johnston’s Old English Rancho in Sanger, Calif., according to Kenny Black, assistant to trainer Don Warren.
“He’ll be freshened to deal with some shin issues,” Black told Santa Anita publicity.
Jockey Perez must sit for three days
Jockey Fernando Perez has been suspended three days for causing interference in the sixth race on Thursday aboard Richard’s Boy.
Richard’s Boy won an optional claimer at six furlongs by a length over Guy Code, but drifted out in the stretch. The stewards conducted an inquiry, but did not change the order of finish.
Perez’s suspension runs from Thursday through Saturday. Through Friday, Perez, 28, had won nine races from 92 mounts, good enough to tie for 10th in the standings at the winter-spring meeting.
