Accelerate set for Los Alamitos Derby

ARCADIA, Calif. – Accelerate, the winner of the Shared Belief Stakes at Del Mar on Aug. 26 in his stakes debut, worked six furlongs in 1:13.20 at Santa Anita on Thursday in advance of the $200,000 Los Alamitos Derby on Sept. 24.
The Grade 2 Los Alamitos Derby is run at 1 1/8 miles and is the richest race of the three-week Los Angeles County Fair meeting at Los Alamitos.
Accelerate is trained by John Sadler for Pete and Kosta Hronis.
Sadler said he timed Accelerate in 1:13.60. “That was his major work,” Sadler said.
Accelerate has won 2 of 5 starts in a career that began in April at Los Alamitos. Accelerate was second in his debut, finishing a neck in front of Arrogate, who had a troubled trip as the 1-2 favorite. Arrogate has won his last four starts, including a track-record performance in the Grade 1 Travers Stakes at Saratoga on Aug. 27.
