Accelerate resumes training following BC Classic win

ARCADIA, Calif. – Breeders’ Cup Classic winner Accelerate returned to Santa Anita on Monday and resumed light training this week in preparation for his career finale in the Grade 1, $9 million Pegasus World Cup Invitational on Jan. 26 at Gulfstream Park.
Accelerate walked Tuesday, jogged Wednesday and Thursday, and will begin galloping Friday.
“He looks great, really bright,” trainer John Sadler said. “We’ll start breezing him in December” to prepare for the Pegasus.
The BC Classic win was Accelerate’s sixth from seven starts in 2018, following Grade 1 victories in the Santa Anita Handicap, Gold Cup at Santa Anita, and the Pacific Classic at Del Mar. Accelerate earned $5,005,000 this year to enter the Horse of the Year conversation with Triple Crown winner Justify.
Following the Pegasus, Accelerate will retire to Lane’s End Farm in Kentucky, where he will stand for a $20,000 stud fee. Accelerate has won 10 races and $5,792,480 from 22 starts for Sadler and Hronis Racing.
