Academic Angel relishes muddy going

Academic Angel overtook pacesetter She's The Future into the stretch and powered home to a five and a half length win in the $35,000 Jiffy Lube at Sam Houston Race Park on Saturday night. Scheduled for turf, the race was moved to a muddy main track because of rains in the area. It was another eight lengths back in third to Won Ton Win.

Academic Angel($3.60) sat off pacesetter She's The Future through fractions of 23.67 seconds for the opening quarter and 47.38 seconds for the half-mile mark before taking over in the stretch. She covered the mile and a sixteenth for fillies and mares in 1:44.46 and earned $21,000 for the win, which was her second straight stakes victory. In her previous start, she won the $75,000 River Cities at Louisiana Downs.
