Above Fashion will attempt to extend her winning streak to three races Friday night when she makes her two-turn debut in the $100,000 My Trusty Cat at Delta Downs. The race is the local stepping-stone to next month’s Grade 3, $400,000 Delta Downs Princess.

The My Trusty Cat, which offers its winner first preference into the Princess, is a seven-furlong race for 2-year-old fillies. Decked Out, who was Grade 3-placed this summer at Saratoga, will not run, according to trainer Keith Desormeaux.

Above Fashion invades from Gulfstream Park, where she won a maiden special weight and a first-level allowance in back-to-back starts in August and September. The My Trusty Cat will be her first start for new owner Brittlyn Stable and trainer Ron Faucheux.

“She’s a pretty nice filly, and we’re looking forward to seeing how she does in this region, in Louisiana,” said Faucheux.

KEY CONTENDERS

Above Fashion (Last 3 Beyers: 67-65-51)

◗ Her winning streak began in her fourth start, when she captured a maiden special weight over six furlongs Aug. 23. The daughter of Paddy O’ Prado returned to take an optional $75,000 claiming race at the same distance by 1 3/4 lengths Sept. 24.

“We hope that she can go a little bit longer,” said Faucheux. “The stallion certainly suggests it.”

Above Fashion has made a favorable impression since her recent arrival in Louisiana.

“She doesn’t act like a 2-year-old,” said Faucheux. “She acts like an older horse. She’s got a very good head on her, and you can tell she’s talented. We just worked her one time, but we really like what we see so far.”

◗ Colby Hernandez has the mount on Above Fashion.

Jet Black Magic (Last 2 Beyers: 63-61)

◗ She’s returning to dirt after finishing second in an optional $75,000 claiming race at a mile on turf Sept. 27 at Churchill Downs. In her only other start, she won a maiden special weight at Indiana Grand. Miguel Mena has the mount for Carl Moore and trainer Bret Calhoun.

La Appassionata (Beyer: 76)

◗ She will be making the second start of her career following a 4 1/2-length maiden special weight sprint win Sept. 13 at Churchill Downs.

◗ La Appassionata is a daughter of Bernardini. She is a half-sister to Grade 2 winners Beethoven and Wilburn.

◗ Gerard Melancon has the mount for Stonestreet Stables and trainer Steve Asmussen.
