Aberdeen: Harold Sanderson Memorial Sprint heads opening-day card
Patrons turning out for the season opener of the Northeast Area race meet at the Brown County Fairgrounds in Aberdeen, S.D., on Saturday will have a notable rooting interest in the Preakness. Steve Asmussen, who trains anticipated starters Hence and Lookin At Lee, is a native of Gettysburg, S.D.
The South Dakota meet that opens Saturday will run five days over two weekends. It features races for Thoroughbreds and Quarter Horses. Post is 1 p.m. Central.
The card Saturday will feature the Harold Sanderson Memorial Sprint for Thoroughbreds, one of 11 races making up the stakes schedule, according to a press release. The opener also includes Quarter Horse trials for both the South Dakota-bred Futurity and Derby.
There will be a horse and tack auction May 28. The meet concludes on Memorial Day, May 29.
