$800,000 Not This Time colt tops Day 3 at OBS spring sale

Nicole Russo|Jun 11, 2020

Freshman sire Not This Time had another outstanding day with a colt selling for $800,000 to lead Thursday's session of the Ocala Breeders' Sales Co.'s spring sale of 2-year-olds in training.

OBS reported 149 juveniles sold in the third of four sessions for gross receipts of $10,748,500, compared to 170 sold for $17,968,500 at last year’s third session. The day's average price was $72,138, a drop of 32 percent from $105,697 in the comparable 2019 session. The median was $40,000, down 32 percent from $58,500 a year ago. The buyback percentage was a respectable 25 percent, compared to 19 percent.

The OBS sale, which was postponed from its original April dates due to the coronavirus pandemic, will almost certainly conclude with declines as the final session closes Friday evening. However, this year's edition of the sale would have been fighting an uphill battle to match last year's figures, even without the economic uncertainty caused by the pandemic, as 2019 was a record renewal.

Graded stakes-winning juvenile Not This Time is off the mark with two winners from his first four starters, and the market has responded. The young stallion is responsible for the current sale leader at OBS spring, a filly who sold for $1.35 million to Gary Young during Tuesday's session.

He followed up with Wednesday's session-topper, who was purchased by Michael Lund Petersen, with Donato Lanni acting as agent. The colt, who was consigned by Randy Bradshaw, as agent, had breezed a furlong in 10 seconds flat on the Ocala Training Center's all-weather Safetrack surface during last week's under-tack preview.

The Florida-bred colt is out of the placed Put It Back mare Business Decision, who does not yet have a winner from two starters. Business Decision is out of Grade 3 winner In Conference, who, in turn, is out of Grade 1 winner Personal Business. This female family, which includes Grade 3 winner Foxy Danseur and Ever So Clever, also was responsible for a $750,000 Ghostzapper colt who led Monday's opening session at OBS.
