$60,000 filly tops California Thoroughbred Breeders Association sale
A 2-year-old filly by Declaration of War was purchased for $60,000 at Tuesday’s January mixed sale in Pomona, Calif., making her the most expensive horse of a sale. The sale ended with a higher gross and average compared to the corresponding event in 2019.
The filly was purchased by Northern California-based trainer O.J. Jauregui, agent for Highland Yard, from the consignment of Checkmate Thoroughbreds, agent.
Checkmate Thoroughbreds, as agent, sold the leading colt, a 2-year-old by Runhappy purchased for $52,000 by Jeff Ganje.
The 2019 sale was led by a 2-year-old that sold for $60,000.
Tuesday, 121 horses were listed as sold for $885,400, an average of $7,317 and a median of $3,000, according to results published by the California Thoroughbred Breeders Association, which conducted the sale.
There were 87 horse listed as not sold, and 60 withdrawn.
In 2019, 81 horses were listed as sold for $589,300, an average of $7,275.
The CTBA began conducting a mixed sale in 2019 after Barretts Sales ceased operation in 2018.
