LEXINGTON, Ky. – A $425,000 filly by leading sire Into Mischief led the way as the Fasig-Tipton Kentucky fall yearling sale, the final stop on this market segment's calendar, began its four-day run Monday with strong figures. Last year's edition of this sale posted record figures across the board that this year's renewal will be hard-pressed to match, but the pursuit began with strong figures Monday. Fasig-Tipton reported that 253 horses changed hands in the opening session at its Newtown Paddocks headquarters in Lexington for gross receipts of $12,342,100. In last year's opener of a four-session sale, 274 horses brought $11,016,900. The session's average price was $48,783, rising 21 percent from $40,208 in the comparable session last year. The median spiked 59 percent, to $27,000 from $17,000. The buyback rate did rise, to 28 percent from 20 percent in the comparable session.  The session-leading Into Mischief filly was purchased by trainer Wesley Ward, with Ben McElroy acting as agent. The filly, who was bred in Kentucky by Alpha Delta Stables, was consigned by Mill Ridge Sales, as agent. The filly is the second foal out of the stakes-winning Lonhro mare Velvet Mood. Her first foal is placed this year as a 2-year-old. Velvet Mood is a half-sister to Grade 1 winner Wicked Whisper; to multiple graded stakes winner Point of Honor, who also was multiple Grade 1-placed; and to stakes-placed Admiral Jimmy. Their dam, Zayanna, is a half-sister to graded stakes winners Mr. Freeze, Dilemma, and Heavenly Ransom, and to stakes winner Capitano. Three-time reigning leading sire Into Mischief, who is currently atop the national earnings list in pursuit of a fourth straight title, also sired the second-highest-priced horse of the session, a $400,000 colt purchased by D.J. Stable. The colt, consigned by Lane's End, as agent, is out of the winning Tribal Rule mare Shysheisnot, dam of two winners from as many starters. It is the extended family of champion Arrogate.
