35 ready to run in Los Alamitos Super Derby time trials
The winners of five leading derbys, and the winner of a $2 million futurity last December, are among the 35 entrants in five time trials for the Los Alamitos Super Derby at 400 yards on Sunday evening.
The runners with the 10 fastest times, regardless of finishing positions, earn berths in the $982,050 final on Nov. 6.
The toughest trial is arguably the eighth race, which drew Whizkey Glasses, who won the Heritage Place Derby at Remington Park in May, and A Pollitical Candy V, the winner of the All American Derby at Ruidoso Downs last month.
There are high-profile runners in each race. Bomb Cyclone, the winner of the $2 million Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity last December, will be favored in the sixth race, which includes Inspyre, the winner of the Dash For Cash Futurity at Lone Star Park last October.

Sweet Dasha Fire, the winner of the Pacific Coast Quarter Horse Racing Association Breeders’ Derby on Oct. 1, makes a rapid turnaround to start in the seventh race against Set for It, who was second in the Golden State Derby on Aug. 14.
The field for the ninth race is led by Golden Boi, the champion 2-year-old colt of 2021 who won the El Primero Del Ano Derby in March. He faces In Hott Pursuit, who was third in the Golden State Million Futurity behind Whizkey Glasses last November.
Scoops Dynasty, the three-length winner of the Golden State Derby, is a standout favorite in a field of seven in the 10th and final trial.
