$300,000 Into Mischief filly tops Day 1 at Fasig-Tipton Kentucky fall yearling sale

A pair of yearlings by reigning leading sire Into Mischief sold for $300,000 and $260,000, respectively, to lead the way as the Fasig-Tipton Kentucky fall yearling sale, the final major-market North American yearling auction of the season, opened its four-day run Monday with respectable figures.
Fasig-Tipton reported 248 yearlings sold in Monday's session for gross receipts of $8,393,800, compared to 244 sold for $9,668,900 in the 2019 opening session. The session's average price was $33,846, a decline of 15 percent compared to $39,627 in the corresponding opening session of the 2019 sale. The session-to-session median remained steady at $15,000.
In one encouraging sign, the sale's buyback rate in what has been an extremely selective marketplace this season opened on a good note, perhaps signifying the urgency to move stock in the final sale of the season. The session's buyback rate was 22 percent, improved from 29 percent in the 2019 opener.
The session-topping $300,000 Into Mischief filly was purchased by Willis Horton from the consignment of Wynnstay Sales, as agent. An April foal, the filly is out of the stakes-placed Lemon Drop Kid mare Kid Majic, who has proven a successful cross with Into Mischief. The session-topping filly is a full sister to Grade 2 winner and Canadian champion Miss Mischief; meanwhile, Kid Majic's unraced daughter Rosemonde is the dam of Into Mischief's multiple Grade 1-placed juvenile Rowayton. Kid Majic also is the dam of stakes-placed Mind Out, by Tapit.
Kid Majic is out of stakes winner Call Her Magic, dam of Grade 1 winner J P's Gusto; of Grade 2-placed Magic Appeal, a multiple stakes producer; and of the stakes producer Magical Mist. This is the family of Kentucky Oaks winner, champion, and stakes producer Proud Spell and of Grade 1 winner Imaginary Lady.
Earlier in the session, an Into Mischief colt sold for $260,000 to Juddmonte Farms. The colt, consigned by Lane's End, as agent, is the second foal out of the More Than Ready mare Golden Cropper, whose first foal is a winner. She is out of Group 3 winner Sliding Cube, making her a half-sister to Group 2 winner and successful sire Rubick. It also is the immediate family of multiple Group 1 winner and three-time Australian leading sire Redoute's Choice and additional Group 1 winners and sires Hurricane Sky, Manhattan Rain, Platinum Scissors, and Umatilla.
