$218K carryover in Magna 5

The $1 Magna 5, a jackpot bet requiring bettors to correctly select the winners of five races run at Magna-owned tracks throughout the nation, has a carryover of $218,894 for Saturday.

The bet, offered only on Saturdays, seldom features a carryover, which should lead to heightened interest. Last year, a single-week carryover resulted in a pool of $981,315 the following week.

Saturday, the Magna 5 races are the ninth race at Laurel, the $50,000 Conniver Stakes; the fourth at Santa Anita, the $200,000 San Felipe Stakes; the ninth race at Gulfstream Park, the Palm Beach Stakes; the fourth at Golden Gate Fields, a six-furlong maiden race for 3-year-olds; and the fifth race at Santa Anita, a claiming race on the hillside turf course.

Post time for the Conniver Stakes is approximately 4:45 p.m. Eastern.

The bet will be considered the Magna 4 by some players. Pioneerof the Nile, one of the leading contenders for the Kentucky Derby, will be heavily favored to win the San Felipe Stakes.
