2021 Eclipse Awards: Juddmonte Farms

Juddmonte Farms, and the international Thoroughbred bloodstock industry at large, experienced a monumental loss in early 2021 with the death of the farm’s founder Prince Khalid bin Abdullah at age 83. Juddmonte continued its high-end operations and honored the founder’s legacy by again finishing as one of the standout owners of 2021, thanks to its homebred program. Abdullah’s sons and grandsons have taken an interest in the Juddmonte program to continue its operations, while its affairs in the United States are managed by Garrett O’Rourke.
Juddmonte’s season was led by three-time stakes-winning millionaire Mandaloun. The colt crossed the line second by a half-length to the star-crossed Medina Spirit in the Kentucky Derby presented by Woodford Reserve. He later crossed the line second by a game nose to Hot Rod Charlie in the Grade 1 TVG.com Haskell Invitational at Monmouth Park, promoted to the victory by that foe’s disqualification. Juddmonte also campaigned Grade 1 Coolmore Jenny Wiley Stakes winner Juliet Foxtrot and graded stakes winners Bonny South, Fulsome, Obligatory, Pocket Square, Set Piece, Verbal, and Viadera last year. Led by the exploits of those runners, Juddmonte finished third by owner earnings in 2021, according to official statistics from Equibase, and was eighth by individual breeder earnings.
