Calumet Farm, under the stewardship of Brad Kelley, continued to add to its history by again finishing near the top of the statistical leaderboards in 2021. Calumet led all individual breeders by earnings in 2019 and 2020, according to Equibase statistics. The farm finished second in 2021, with breeder earnings of $16,127,515. The farm also finished fifth by individual owner earnings. Calumet, founded in 1924 by William Wright, campaigned a slew of champions through its history, including Triple Crown winners Whirlaway (1941) and Citation (1948). Since the advent of the modern Eclipse Awards in 1971, the farm has claimed one outstanding breeder title, with that coming in 1990, the year it campaigned Horse of the Year Criminal Type. Kelley assumed the helm of Calumet in 2012. Calumet’s season in 2021 was led by a pair of homebred Grade 1 winners, as Channel Cat, by the late turf champion and Calumet stallion English Channel, won the Man o’ War Stakes on the Belmont Park turf; and Lexitonian captured the Alfred G. Vanderbilt Stakes at Saratoga.
