2021 Breeders' Cup Sprint: Following Sea likely to be pre-entered

ELMONT, N.Y. – Since he owns a fees-paid berth into the race, Following Sea will be likely be pre-entered Monday for the $2 million Breeders’ Cup Sprint to buy his connections more time before deciding whether to run, trainer Todd Pletcher said Friday.
Following Sea earned his way into the Nov. 6 Sprint at Del Mar by virtue of his victory in the Grade 2 Vosburgh on Oct. 9. On Friday, Following Sea worked a half-mile in 49.73 seconds over Belmont Park’s training track.
“Right now, we’re focused on trying to win a Grade 1, so just trying to determine if our best chance is there, or waiting for the Cigar Mile [Dec. 5 at Aqueduct] or the Malibu [Dec. 26 at Santa Anita],” Pletcher said. “First, we had to see how the horse came out of the Vosburgh. He seems to have bounced out of it very sharp, feeling good. The work this morning was what we expected it to be, which was an easy half which he was doing on his own.”
Following Sea was one of four Breeders’ Cup hopefuls Pletcher put through workouts Friday morning.
Life Is Good (Dirt Mile) went another visually-impressive half-mile in 47.56 seconds with a strong gallop-out of 1:12.80 for six furlongs. Mind Control (Dirt Mile) went five furlongs in 1:01.28 with a gallop-out of 1:14.00. Malathaat (Distaff) went five furlongs in 1:01.45, finishing two lengths clear of workmate En Wye Cee, and continued out seven furlongs in 1:27.70.
